Here are some pupil quotations about the subject:
- "PSHE means developing yourself as a person and learning about life. What can be more important than that?" Year 11 student.
- "It helps me deal with everyday issues." Year 10 boy.
This is what we have to say about PSHE education:
As a school, we really value the subject of PSHEe and have been awarded National Healthy Schools status.
PSHE equips young people with knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive, fulfilled, capable and responsible lives. It encourages them to be enterprising and supports them in making effective transitions, positive learning and career choices and in managing their finances effectively. PSHE education also enables young people to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes, and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future. It helps young people embrace change, feel positive about who they are and enjoy healthy, safe, responsible and fulfilled lives. Through active learning opportunities pupils recognise and manage risk, take increasing responsibility for themselves, their choices and behaviours and make positive contributions to their families, schools and communities.
PSHE personal wellbeing is delivered by only 2 teachers in the entire school. Both teachers have the DCSF recognised PSHE national certification. Ms Franklin is also an advanced skills teacher for North Lincolnshire for PSHE. In all year groups, PSHE is taught as a discrete subject, but the curriculum time is shared with Citizenship, although students are always made aware of which subject area they are studying. PSHE economic wellbeing is delivered by one teacher in the entire school to years 9, 10 and 11 and includes work related learning and enterprise.
