Values & Ethos
Our motto is “Try your best, be nice and you’ll do well” and this forms a strong foundation of expectation for pupils and staff alike in all they do.
Whilst our academic and behavioural processes create our framework for an organised, well-functioning school we understand the power of positive relationships with each other and the wider community and the need for flexibility in order to genuinely meet every child’s needs.
We understand that the best results a child can achieve will result in the best destination opportunities but this would mean little without preparing our children to be confident, resilient and at peace with their place and role in 21st century Britain.
Today’s society holds different challenges compared to when our generation of teachers and parents were at school. We are mindful of the importance of giving pupils personal time and responsibilities to be positive participants of our future society. Examples of how we encourage this are through our full lunch hour and mobile phone policy.
Underpinning the day-to-day curricular & inter-personal activities are the following values that we work hard to instil into all of our children and, we believe, create our unique ethos:
Pride
we promote pride in what we achieve, what we have overcome and who we are as individuals, as a community and as a nation.
Aspiration
aspiration drives every member of our community to be better and if we aspire to the edge of our limits we may surprise ourselves with what we will achieve.
Belonging
we all belong to this community and we all support each other.
Sense of Self
we value knowing who we are as individuals, as a community and as a nation enables us to know the aims that we have in life, behave in a way that works towards these aims and remain true to them through our lives. We respect ourselves and we respect others.
Happiness
we define happiness as a balance of contentment in our current life experiences with an ambition to improve ourselves and the world in which we live. Every member of our community can be happy. We can all learn to face adversity with resilience, curiosity and sometimes humour.
Rewarding and celebrating
we reward and celebrate the successes, positive actions and good in ourselves and others.
The importance of spirituality
each individual’s perception of reality will alter how they interact with the world. We guide and support members of our community to: have a sense of awe and wonder about the universe and its contents; experience and explore their spiritual selves and to respect the spiritual paths of others; live in a manner that is faithful to their spirituality or world view.
Making sense of the world
an understanding of the world in which we live; enjoying and appreciating the different people, places and experiences that exist in the world; understanding and valuing difference and the causes of it and processing difficult world events when they arise. These understandings help us to feel a connection with the world outside our immediate community and provide a sense of place in the world.
Reflection and understanding
we reflect not only to deepen our academic understanding but also to reinforce our moral code and strengthen the values of ourselves and our school.
