The School Council

Your Voice, Your School, Your Future. Making a real difference at Frederick Gough.

Our Purpose

The School Council is a respected platform for students to voice their ideas, concerns, and feedback. It is not just a wish list; it's a place for meaningful discussion where every issue raised receives a fully explained response. We collaborate with staff, the Headteacher, and the Premises Manager to actively shape the school experience, from catering to classroom feedback.

How It Works

  • Form Representatives: Each form group elects a representative to gather feedback.
  • Year Group Meetings: Reps meet once per half-term to discuss issues and set the agenda.
  • Full Council Meeting: Two or three students from each year meet with Mr Lawrance (Headteacher) and Mr Higgins (Premises Manager) to present their points.
  • Feedback Loop: Outcomes are shared back through year group meetings, ensuring every form group is informed.

Our Impact

The School Council has made real, tangible differences to life at our school. Some of our key achievements include:

  • Successfully petitioning the school governors to add shorts to the official uniform.
  • Helping to reduce lunchtime congestion in the Dining Hall.
  • Improving the student experience in exam halls by reporting and resolving issues.

"Frederick Gough School values its student voice, and the School Council is one of the most important ways it is heard."
